Funeral Guide
A simple, easy-to-follow guide explaining exactly what to do once someone has passed away or for a funeral in Muslims/Islam.
Obtain a medical certificate from the hospital or GP
You should liaise with the coroner's office, and the death will need to be reported to the local registry office. Once the cause of death is confirmed, the coroner shall issue a certificate ruling out further investigation and you shall then make the necessary preparations for the burial by contacting our team.
Register the death using the medical certificate
Call your local registration office for an appointment. Some offices have walk-in slots for urgent matters but this should already be considered as pending a burial for Muslims. Check which papers will be required to avoid delays.
Plan the Funeral & Burial
Contact a Muslim Funeral Director to take the deceased from the hospital and arrange for all the proper rites like Ghusl (bath), Kafan (shrouds), Janazah Salah (funeral prayer), and transportation to the burial ground. Choose and purchase the preferred burial plot, and pre-coordinate a time for the burial service. We work hand-in-hand with Muslim Funeral Directors and are available to make all arrangements at our burial site (Muslim cemetery).
Financial and legal advice
You can reserve plots in advance, and there is no interest of any kind. If you did not pre-book a plot and now you need to book one for your loved one, flexible, interest-free payments can be made over 12 months to make this difficult time as cost-effective as possible.
Widow/widower contact
Grief is a very subjective thing and, during a Muslim funeral in the UK, something that differs from person to person. If you need to discuss your thoughts or if you want more resources and support, don't be afraid to contact our team. We're here to try and support you through this tough period in as many ways as possible and connect you to whatever support is available.
